We found a island population of Alcornoque the Spanish name for cork oaks (Quercus suber). Where 200 years ago a cork oaks forest was growing now there are only a few individuals remaining. We planted some small cork oaks in the shad of the old ones to bring in some new genetic material.

Nice! In eastern Spain there are several places where cork oaks still grow, even on decarbonized dolomitic soils like arround Pinet and Barx, where average rainfall goes from arround 850-900 mm up to more than 1000 mm annualy.

This method to plant two saplings together in one pit, is one that I have never seen before, but it makes sense!
