I believe the engine block is from the Pentastar V6 motor Chrysler developed. Not a bad engine to start with, considering it's been ranked as a "Wards 10 best" engine the last three years.

Also, why is it that commenters are comparing this to the Vette, 911 and R8? This is a 4 door Grand Touring sedan, not an all-out sports car.

"Ghibli" means wind of desert, it's a wonderful name for an exotic italian  car as art in motion: "Ghibli" is a  perfect sounding.

Ghibli means hot wind. It was the name of one of the most famous of Maserati cars and one of the most beautiful sports cars ever, designed the incomparable Giorgetto Giugiaro.

Good point about it being more of a Grand Touring Sedan. We will have to see just how sporty the Ghibli is once we can all get out and drive one at our local Maserati Dealer. However the engine in the new Ghibli is actually sourced by Ferrari and built in their Maranello Plant. Also the ZF8 Gearbox it is mated with is the same one that is in the Bentley Mulsanne and the Rolls Royce Ghost

I agree about the engine sound while in sport mode. I have to disagree about the Dashboard though. It's made of Genuine Poltruna Frau Leather and the model in the video had Real Veneer, not fake plastic like a lot of other manufactures use

The sports mode sounds marvelous! I wish he would've given more information on the difference between the two modes rather than just saying, "changes shift points, and the way the car handles...." Google, here I come!

Actually with a decent lease program this vehicle will be opened up to a much greater market than its siblings while still providing close to the same quality. Also Maserati has already taken over 9K orders for the Ghibli and they haven't even hit the showroom floors yet.

Objectively it might not be as good as the German luxury sedans, I'd still buy one for two reasons: it looks and sounds amazing.

first i was kinda sad that the next Challenger/charger was'nt gonna be on the giorgio platform based on the gulia but now that i saw this video im not that sad the ghibli is very likeable car! :)

After the depreciation hits on these cars in three to fours years, they will drop 55% in price. Will be perfect time to pick it up.

Isn't the Maserati Ghinli based on an old Mercedes E-class just like Chrysler 300/Dodge Charger?? Just asking.
