How to find your own UNIQUE art style

Although there is a trap I’ve noticed some artists fall into which is where they essentially just become a carbon copy of another artist either intentionally or unintentionally. This trap can be avoided by seeking inspiration from a wide range of artists rather than hyper fixating on one in particular.

i can confirm this is true, i tried to copy a simple drawing of megumi from the jujutsu kaisen manga but i somehow ended up giving him the holy bible

I always stress about copying other artists, so this really helps me realize that doing art studies doesn’t make you a replicator of someone else’s art. 👍

You'll only be a copy if your goal IS to be a copy. We all have a drive to be creative, so if you are doing art studies to study, you'll regardless end up doing things your way)

Its amazing, I saw great artists today evolve their own style. Mazumaro from example started by heavily inspired by Sidu. Melo used to paint exactly like Ishida Sui. Now both of them are great artists with their own style

Ah yes. This did happens to me alright when it comes to drawing eyes. Basically, I am a fan of LAM's works when it comes to their potrait style works (For me, Basically, showing mostly the face and upper torso.), especially when it comes to the character's eyes. I got inspired by their FGO Abigail Williams fanart so I did find myself doing more pattern on the eyes than usual.

I love to do style studies because once I do it I end up taking little things with me. Like one study I did was cause I liked how they did hair and after I was able to improve my hair style using what I learnt from the study.

Even just looking at the artists work before a study, figuring out what makes their style theirs, you pick up little things~
Whenever i'm in a slump I love to draw my oc in other styles~

I do have my own unique artstyle
I call it idkfa, definetly means "I Don't Know Frickin' Anything" and definetly isn't a Doom cheat code I use as a placeholder for everything I don't know how to name

And it's throwing pancakes at the ceiling and seeing which one doesn't turn into an anvil and fall onto my head
