The video by Soft White Underbelly where he takes the family to Walmart is a good one. You see more of their personalities and family dynamics. Mark, of Soft White Underbelly, has raised, and continues to raise, money for the family. They’ve used it to fix up the home, buy food and clothing, got a truck, etc. He just released some new videos of when he recently visited them, he spoke with them about possibly helping them get a new home, takes them to get haircuts, etc. I’m not sure if he oversees the money raised/how it is spent, but you can tell he’s truly trying to help them and not just try to scam them for money and views. And when they say Timmy graduated high school, it’s probably through a special education program. My state’s public schools have a special education program where they actually go to the same schools as everyone else, but they have their own curriculum. Once they complete all of their classes, or age out (age 21), they are able to “graduate” with the rest of the graduating class of that year and receive a diploma, similar to that of a regular student.

I love this family. They're as happy as any family can be. They're well-protected by their neighbors.

I have ancestors from Appalachia. In old, rural America, actual documentation (birth/death certificates/census records, etc.) are NOT common. It's very difficult/impossible for me to track those ancestors further than 150 years or so...and then, ONLY of they moved into more "developed" parts of the US.

Missing records are not uncommon in rural areas. My dad was born at home along with his younger brother in the back hills of Kentucky. He has 11 brothers and sisters. He and his brother didn't get a birth certificate until years after they were born. They have a family cemetery in KY and there are probably lots of people buried there that don't have any records of their death. There are a ridiculous number of Hatchers in KY and TN so our family tree would probably fill an airport runway.

My Dad was born in Yugoslavia in 1926...don't know what happened to his papers but at one point having lived here in the States for years had to apply for certain documents from his homeland only to discover when he received them that he had been using and celebrating the wrong date as his birthday...for years!

W Va board of record burnt down and they lost all the birth/death records in 1909 / My mother from W Va never had a correct birthday because her family lived in a "hollar" and didnt care about records so we celebrated her birthday the 1st and the 3rd of January

Super interesting.i
I’ve had occasions to holiday in West Virginia - beautiful countryside (no doubt harsh to farm with all the hills), interesting natural places to hike, climb, and raft, friendly, awesome folk. 🤘

I always get insanely confused when it comes to family trees, even just regular non-inbred ones.

I work with mentally handicapped people. Many are way smarter than given credit for. Just have to learn how they communicate. Awesome people who just show love and not trying to use someone. They just show gratitude for being treated right.

quite interesting to get a visual of how big their family tree is.

Is this the story of the British royal family Mountbatten-Windsor?

In the US, pre 1920s, it is difficult to find records. A lot of times I find people cause they are in the cemetary and we have to acvount for them. Also, sometimes the last names were changed to "Americanize" them and unless that name was verbally passed down, nobody remembers them. Also, the expansion of US helps with these issues cause there are not that many organized townships for a while, mostly just homesteading. A lot of immigrants from every direction also. It is hard for the rest of the world to imagine the US as a developing country, but it really wasn't that long ago for us 😀

Gotta say that I truly enjoy this type of content. When the subject is interesting enough, and presented well, that we all just sit silently trying to take it in. Probably not great for the "you daddy" algorithms but I really enjoy it. I still love the rest of your content. Keep up the good work.

I've watched every video about the Whittakers, and there's no way Timmy graduated high school. I think Betty must have misunderstood the question, or she meant he graduated from elementary/primary school. Either that or he's some sort of honorary/charity graduate because they couldn't have him repeating any more years. Timmy's my favorite of the bunch, but there's just no way.

If your family is Roman Catholic you can trace them through Marriage and Cristing records through the church.

Didn't there used to be a blood test people got to protect against marrying cousins, known or unknown? I never hear about it now, but it seemed like something I heard about growing up in the late 60's-70's. It looks like it didn't matter then either.
