I tried mousse with gel or just mousse but my hair looked and felt so dry after I’d used a blow dryer on low heat setting to set the hair 😅

I have fine low density hair. You can kind of see through it, when loose. I used to have high density hair. But it changed because of medication use I think. I want my hair to appear fuller. A lot of gels are too heavy for my hair. And cause my hair to shrink up a lot. And then appearing as if I have less hair on my scalp. If I do use gel you mean I then should use just a bit overall on top. But to not be heavy handed with it? And yes I heard from a hair stylist online that mousse helps to let the hair expand with time. And gels don't do that.
