Today I’m showing you how I pack for long trips! 💼 I will be sharing my travel essentials as well as exactly what I packed for my month-long trip to Costa Rica and Hawaii. I try to apply minimalism not only to what I own, but also to what I bring when I travel.

We are a family of six. Each person travels with one backpack each. Whatever does not fit in your backpack, does not make the Journey. The packing cubes are our essential packing items. I was skeptical at first that it would really make that much of a difference, but they do!

I'm so glad you enjoyed our eco friendly islands! I'm from Maui! Which island did you visit? I was really excited to see your video because I'm about to travel to Europe for a month. My goal--one backpack! :)

This is difficult to do for a snowskiing trip. Thanks. For the video.

This was great. I aspire to pack that light. I do normally wear 95% of what I pack.

You should look into shampoo and conditioner bars once you run out of your bottles! I have wavy/curly super tangly and unruly hair so I wasn’t sure how they would work for me, but I LOVE them!!! I use the ones from zero waste store and they work so well, it’s also a great way to cut back on plastic waste, especially while traveling :)

Hi Ashlynne, I have watched and enjoyed 2 of your videos. I am a convert to carry-on travel. I thought that you might be interested to know that as Australians we are much more restricted when travelling carry-on in economy because most airlines allow either only one bag or one plus a small personal item like a messenger bag. Our combined weight limit is 7kg, occasionally 10kg. I have only taken one 2-week trip to Vietnam at the start of the pandemic and since then we were prevented from travelling until recently. It is still not very easy or affordable. My husband and I (both retired) love Italy and are planning to travel there for 1 - 3 months with carry-on. We will take clothing, and a limited supply of toiletries as well as smart phones which serve as cameras, computers, e-readers etc. We choose light-weight quick-dry clothing that we layer and mix and max. We know that in most places you can buy whatever you need in terms of toiletries and clothing. It would be more difficult for people who travel on organised tours though.

Hi, Ashlynne. My husband and I are on a 30-40 day road trip, covering a large strip of the country. I packed far too much, medium suitcase and large suitcase, plus smaller backpack and personal backpack. Way too much! I do take a lot of meds so had to bring those, but brought far too many clothes. Essentials would be camera, iPad, cellphone and chargers, a good book and travel size shampoo and conditioner because what you get in the hotel isn’t so good. Next year, going to NY, packing much lighter.

Great that you bought your Birkenstock used. I have not done that yet. Did not you have any problems at first when wearing? It is said that Birkenstock need a break in phase, where they adapt to the foot individually and then become more comfortable with each wearing. If someone else has worn them, I would have thought that would not be so good. Or does that not matter? - I love Birks too :-) Best regards

Really good packing video and interesting. I’m fairly sure the bb cream belongs in the clear liquids bag, but I have noticed from watching a lot of these videos that there is a widely diverse interpretation of what constitutes a liquid and most seem to have no trouble getting through the airport checks. I’m always interested in this because the liquids thing can be the most difficult thing to nail.

I know it's way too late now but if you have any clothes with stains, wet the stain and leave in the sunshine for a few hours. Most of the time they come out 😊

Birkenstock’s that’s what I wear for sandals I own x5 pairs. I need to stop buying so many pairs. They are the best

I actually have packed summer and winter clothes in one suitcase. I did this as a habit and am still doing it. Both seasons is about 4 pants and 8 shirts. I wish I could find that social site for minimalism and not just vacationing, I live with my mom and packed to leave someday.

Quick tip for packing underwear: I fold them KonMari style and put them all in a row standing up in a small packing cube. I then put my socks in a row next to them and my bras next to that, and it all fits nicely (depending on the size of your cube of course). Just putting them all in a bag works too of course though! I just like being able to neatly see everything so that's another option ^_^
