Here’s a note I learned from one of my academy coaches: it’s REALLY important that the attacker drives into the centre for this to work. If you’re both travelling across the wing you don’t give the person overlapping any space and the defender will win it. (Before someone reply’s saying “who’s stupid enough to not drive inside” or whatever, it’s not first instinct for everyone)

I literally do this and the person says they don’t pass because “it’s dangerous” and then they end up losing possession

Nice simple explanation, easy to understand and master the basics of the overlap. For anyone criticing...1 its very hard to coach, it can be overwhelming lol and this was 10 or 20 seconds. Theyd of had an hour to progress from this.

I think it’s important to talk about the timing of that run.

To early he might decided to track the runner and someone else steps to you. To late and the ball is not on.

The perfectly timed overlap to catch the defense between two decisions so satisfying. The get like decision paralysis
