OSM map

To move towards a Level 4/5 autonomous vehicles , we need to have a mechanism to have High Definition maps of the surroundings . One way of procuring this extended information about the location is to fetch the data from a cloud server . Openstreetmaps have a lot of manually entered semantic information that’s available to almost anyone .

This allows us to add a layer of information about the location of a building , traffic rules on a certain strip , where the zebra crossing or a traffic light is located .

Go to the following website to download the OSM map of your area .

You will need to correct the path of the *.osm file in the launch file & add in the correct UTM coordinates for static transform
