My 1966 Chevelle SS 396 VS My 1965 GTO 389 Tri Power

What a prized collection, these were my 2 favorite cars growing up during those years as I was only 13-14 years old and diehard destined to become a gear head. I took an early interest in muscle cars because of an 5 year older brother who had many muscle car buddies started building up a '55 Chevy around '63-64 with a built up 283-270 engine, then in '65 he sold the '55 and bought a '65 GTO from the local dealer with the 389-360 HP 3 deuces, 4-speed, and a dealer installed 4.33 rear for $3, 300, all I remember is hearing that awesome sound of the 3 deuce air intake combined with the muncie gear whine and getting pushed back into the bucket seat when the petal hit the floor, it also had an awesome ride & handling package that made the car feel so solid especially in the turns. The '66 Chevelle 396-360 HP was my other favorite because every day I would see many other locals showing off running them through the gears in front of a local drug store/soda shop hangout less than a mile from where I lived and frequented myself, only 4 years later I began working at a service station across the street from there and had a '64 Chevy Impala SS with a 4-speed with a later installed '67 327-275 engine that ran awesome, but I gradually modified it to the 350 HP specs and installed a 4.56 rear, then it was my turn to show off. At close to 72 now I really miss these cars because they are NOT comparable to today's crap, I wish that I would have put them in storage for years so I could have enjoyed them for the rest of my life. 😪

I love both of those cars. As a Pontiac fan I want a 65 Catalina 421 2 + 2 . I had a 67 Pontiac executive with a 400 in it. It was crazy fast for a big boat. But I was a kid who did not appreciate and preserve it

My 66 GTO was geared higher than my 67 Chevelle, Chevelle was the bad boy around town 396/375 HP. But 118 was about tops, the Goat wasn't as quick but had a top end about 128 or 130

When we got married I had a 65 chevell ss convertible, power top and brakes, I put a 427 3x2 4 spd in it after blowing the 327 4 spd. My wife had a 65 GTO, 389 3 x2 4 spd, power brakes, power steering, and dealer installed ac with a factory reverb lol, they were fun cars that we beat the snot out of lol

I hAVE SEEN a drag comparison of the 2. The Chevelle is definetly faster. Too bad gm never sold them with the 427 bbc from the showroom floor, because the 69 Yenkos were actually faster than the 70s Chevelle 454 ss.

P.S. Was the Goats automatic a turgid 2 speed? (that was originally in the 65s?)

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel
pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in
the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems,
turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and
New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be
done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of
crime here, called emissions and smoke crime...:-((((
