i have listened to h3 for almost a decade and i have tried and tried to give ethan the benefit of the doubt on this but when hasan pointed out that he was using the same logic as the slave owners in the civil war, and ethan said, “were there black terrorists who were murdering a bunch of civilians though?” as a response i really did not know how i could continue listening to him. violent resistance to institutionalized violence like, i don’t know OWNING or IMPRISONING or STARVING or BOMBING people should be expected when you enact an apartheid. when you create an underclass and torment them until they have nothing to lose, you create terror groups. the initiating violence is the way that Israel violently enacts an apartheid state. i just don’t understand why it’s hard to understand.

edit: i just got to ethan saying there are “no jews saying ‘from the river to the sea.’” he really just hasn’t been paying attention to reality at all

Being afraid of genocide is not a valid reason to perpetuate genocide.

i'm sorry ..this may be completely uncharitable but given the way ethan basically says if you free palestinians they're going to kill israelis, when hasan brings up the examples of ireland and south africa and ethan says, "that's different, " it sounds like he's saying "no, this is different because we're dealing with ARABS here. if you stop caging them like animals, they're going to kill israelis." he is obsessed with a hypothetical genocide and the optics of a phrase--although he says this is what israelis think not him--when a very real genocide is occurring.

Why is Ethan so much more concerned with Israelis “feeling uncomfortable” than Palestinians being brutally massacred???

honestly, i was holding out hope for ethan that MAYBE his heart was in the right place or something but as soon as he compared jewish voice for peace to kapos i was out, fucking done there is no hope for this man

ethan: "i don't know anything about south african apartheid so stop talking about it."
like what...just because you don't talk about it doesn't mean it doesn't hold weight

53:38 Saying "how do you do politics with the terrorist group like hamas" when israel has been the terrorist state worse than hamas is crazy

Ethan: Show me ONE example of a Jewish person saying it

Hasan: Okay, let me call up my Jewish friend to say it

Ethan: I DON'T CARE WHAT ONE PERSON THINKS!!!

I like Ethan, but he regresses into a child-like state during arguments. He needs to stop and listen to himself instead of just trying to rebut over and over and over

Ethan just referred to rebelling slaves as African terrorists lmao

The fact that Ethan is so scared of what Palestinians will do if the walls are torn down, just speaks volumes to the attrocities that Israel has done to Palestenians. The "you can't treat me the way I've enjoyed treating you for decades" mentality is a strange one.

Ethan: "Show me one Jewish person saying 'From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free'"
Hasan: "Here's a Jewish person saying it"
Ethan: "I dont care what one Jewish person says"

Ethan is so concerned about what people think about him, but not WHY people think that way.

Ethan: "Tell me another time when something like this happened..."
Hasan: **Cites a similar mass historical conflict commonly referenced/compared to Israel**

Ethan: "But that's not Israel, they're different!"
Hasan: **Cites a time in Israel's history**

Ethan: "But that's not Israel today, that was different and that's too far in the past!"
Hasan: **Cites a recent incident**

Ethan: "You can't even understand Hasan, you've never lived in politically violent terrorist conditions"
Hasan: **Cites the fact that he has in fact lived in those conditions**

Ethan: "Show me a Jewish person who says this pro-Palestinian phrase but if you do it's tokenizing Jews"
Hasan: **offers several Jewish people in support of Palestine**

Ethan: "I'm not informed on that and I can't confirm it, never heard if it. Maybe I'll concede it may have happened. But you don't understand, Israel won't concede on anything, so what do we do?! I'm the only Israeli on Earth (by marriage/"right to return") so trust me, I know exactly how everyone over there is feeling at this exact moment about this war and nothing you're saying is realistic/feasible at all. Not even sure why I'm sitting here with you since I'm right and you're so wrong."
Hasan: **eternal patience whilst talking to a wall that wouldn't be able to stop interrupting him to save his own life** AND cant criticize Hasan's arguments so he jusy criticizes his mods

How about we don't focus on a hypothetical genocide, and focus on the one Israel is actively perpetuating? Wasn't Ethan the one talking about "the timing" of what you say? His timing for arguing about a slogan is pretty awful by his own standards...

Ethan asking Hasan if he’s experienced bombs then dismissing it is so infuriating

ethan has a hang up about being misunderstood when he’s getting pushback about something he thinks he can get his point across better about. He’ll get defensive, repeat himself and paraphrase his points in frustration for weeks without managing to clarify his point when it happens. he rarely considers, once mired in this, that he’s wrong - instead maintaining he’s being misunderstood. I don’t even mean this in a negative way necessarily, but we all have our things we don’t handle well that’s his.
