Also of note, keep the weather in mind. If you live in a dry area you'll likely have to water on a regular schedule, but if it rains often in your area then you run the risk of over-watering if you don't account for it.

I always do the water wait water, first garden this year but after checking the soil and seeing how dry it was it made sense to let it soak in a bit.

Great information Kevin. Watering seems to be art, science and experience combined. I'm a container and food scape gardener in Zone 8a Central Arkansas. I find the daily walk-about in the garden helps me connect to my gardens needs. My philosophy is regular tending to your garden whether you do anything else or not. Happy Gardening.

We just built our first raised bed and it’s a huge one (4’x16’x2’) and we are putting a core of old spent hay in our bed to help with watering this year. I’ve only done indoor gardening so I’m excited to give this a go!

Hearing you say that you've killed a million seedlings weirdly made me feel ready to start mine. I was recently told that I shouldn't be embarrassed by my black thumb because practice made perfect. I should have trusted them! I figured people were just born with this weird third sense that I cannot tap into.

Live in an apt without hookup outside so i fill up can inside. When I'm tired of back & forth I found a hose that attaches to the facet inside.
