Everything I've ever heard Tavi play has a wonderful attention to not just playing the notes correctly (which is always does, flawlessly), but bringing out a special beauty of the piece. He is so musical and produces impeccable tone quality.

this arrangemente is not by Christopher Parkening, it is by Leo Brouwer. The name of the song is Drume Negrita, or Canción de Cuna

Sounds like the Brouwer arrangement of Drume Negrita, a song written by Eliseo Grenet, or maybe his brother Emilio.

"Christopher Parkening" must be an english translation for the name of the great Cuban guitarist, composer, and arranger: Leo Brouwer.

Well, there's no doubt this is from Leo Brouwer's "Dos temas populares cubanos" (Two Cuban popular themes), published in 1956 (although many insist in taking a '76/'78 edition as a landmark).
But I didn't see here any comments about the wrong chord at 2'29" (after Am7). This "contribution", maybe, should be the one credited to other guy. 🤔

To be clear, this is an arrangement for guitar by the Cuban master guitarist Leo Brouwer of "Drume Negrita" lullaby composed by Eliseo Grenet and this is pretty common during Castro era. People take credit from cuban music works but thanks to the internet nowadays they can be exposed.

My goodness I love this piece! I put it on a self-compiled world music lullaby CD for my now 9-year old daughter, and it brings back memories as well as inspires this steel-stringer to want to get the classical out and have a go at it. Beautifully done Tavi!

Stop talking about the piece and notice the guitar. Richard Reynoso is a revelation. I haven't heard any more beautiful guitars and I've been playing for awhile.

This beautiful piece is a lullaby after more touching and moving at the tempo played by Ravi Jinariu than when played metronomically as Hugh Jardon  indicates he prefers.  Probably it's all simply a matter of personal I'm a Cristopher Parkening fan from way back, but would love to hear him play this at a slower tempo.

This Guitar has such a nasal, middle range tone. I loved the tones from the previous RUMORES on the Rodriquez - Cordoba master series.

The playing is excellent, but again they are using too much reverb to record it. Reverb kills vibratos and color of sound. There is nothing better than the natural sound of a guitar. The recording should try to copy that sound without adding other elements.

An all time favorite of mine.

I am a little surprised to see the arrangement attributed to Christopher Parkening.  In my college days, 1975 or thereabouts, a fellow used to play this piece sometimes at a coffee house located near Vanderbilt U; and he attributed the arrangement to Leo Brouwer, a young and multitalented Cuban (he also delved into filmmaking), who later became a Minister of Culture or something in the Cuban government.

I just looked Brouwer up at Wiki.  His face today looks like someone who has been enforcing the Communist line for 40+ years; but he used to be a wunderkind, and credit should fall where due.

As I understand it, this piece is not by Brouwer, per se, but an arrangement he did of a traditional Cuban tune.  The Parkening arrangement seems to be based on the Brouwer, though.  (Interestingly, there are quite a few differences here from the Parkening version it claims to be based on.)  Nonetheless, beautifully played!

One of the most beautiful sounding guitar recordings I've come across on YT.

The sleeve notes for the LP of the 1976 Parkening recording say the arranger was Jack Marshall (Parkening's uncle). Note that this was two years before Brouwer's arrangement was published.

as Cuban I can tell you, it sounds "robotic".
Unfortunately, even Leo Brower played "barroco" which is a crime to the Cuban ear
:(

You should list the composer in the description, Eliseo Grenet

When I tried to add a second part on the fly, it really showed me how much rubato you can get away with in solo performance! This is a lovely interpretation (as are all Jinariu's) but I know he'd be a bit more strict in a duet situation (see Muriel Anderson and Felix LaLanne's (?) duet version. that's lovely too).
