Few more tips for beginners just starting out.

1. When you open the crafting menu there is a small image of a book there; Click it and it will reveal all the crafting options available to you based on the resources you are currently carrying. You can also set this to "show all" by clicking the little slider to show the rest of the items and what you will need for any given craft.

2. Consider crafting barrels when you first start out instead of chests. They hold more than a single chest (Not connected) and as such you'll get more per/resource. At least until you have enough to make double chests.

3. Never. Ever. Ever. Dig straight down. If you do you'll find Lava the hard way and lose all of your gear/items. As an additional consequence to dying in lava, it burns all your stuff.

4. If you have enough stone to craft a second furnace do so, you can use it to cook meat from the animals you harvest along the way. Beef>Chicken>Mutton.

5. If you find yourself in a situation where you lack food - find an ocean. Jump in and face-punch fish. By far the easiest method to acquire large amounts of food.

6. If you don't find a large enough quantity of Iron to create all your gear prioritize a Pick-Axe first, Then Shield, Then Armor. - Caveat; Use a stone Pick-Axe for everything except Diamonds and harder ore's until you have enough Iron to make more pick-axes and can comfortably break them without having to scramble and find more Iron. I.E. Save the Iron Pick for the good stuff.

I am just gonna say one thing about Minecraft. Minecraft is basically when everything except nature has been destroyed. You are basically the last person on earth, or if you want to go to mini games its just mini games. You can also play with friends which is the survival buddy :)
Edit: To be honest, my friend let me go in his world and I am already suited up with armour, weapons, and a household. Lol.
