So you want to make some cool woozy noises don't ya? I know you've got your eye on that HKS SSQV BOV and just thinking about all those ladies that you'll impress as you drive down the road sounding like a full fledged race car. But let's step back and take a look at what the actual differences are between BOV's and Bypass valves. There is the legend, the myth and the horror that a BOV will damage your engine. But will it really?......

Sir, thank you for the massive information dump you have released upon me lol. Just picked up my second wrx. 1st was a 2002 wrx and now we have a 2017 wrx. I have so many ideas for this car and your channel has opened my eyes to so many pros and cons of things I've had in mind. Seriously thank you for all the videos and for all of your time. To be honest I have a trucking channel and I'll be trucking and just let your channel play in the background. So much info bro. Thank you again. Stay safe sir. Oh and its completely stock with 43k miles on it.

I'm making the step to finally mod my 2014 STI Hatch. I have a buddy that works on Subaru's for a living but I'm the kind of person that has to know what is happening and not just rely on someone to tamper with my dream car. I've learned so much from your channel. I'm new to the channel but If you haven't already made a video on this topic it would be nice to cover the countless acronyms that come with the modification world. Being new to this I have had to stop your videos many times to look up acronyms and there meaning. Great work on the channel. Thanks dude!

If you have a blow through MAF (sensor after turbo) and BOV after MAF you can have all the BOV goodness with no real drawbacks (other than turbo RPZm dropping more than it would with BPV)

I was torn between the two for awhile until i decided to go with a Dual Port BOV! what this means is it vents both to the atmosphere and back into the air intake - Increasing performance due to minimized leakage and rapid response. Best of both worlds! ;)

I had a 2016 Jeep Renegade with the 1.4 Turbo Fiat engine and 6 speed manual and it had a BOV from the factory. It was surprisingly audible too

I’ve literally just changed mine back from a dump valve to my stock recirc again.
The sound was fun and the throttle shut afterfire/bang were cool. But the lag in gear changes from losing all the boost is REALLLY noticeable. Did some pulls last night and jesus just keeps pulling rather than the car bouncing around the second clutch is dipped.

I hadn’t noticed how bad it was till i changed it.
Coming off throttle with the dump valve felt like hitting a wall almost like applying the brakes.
With the recirc it almost feels like it just keeps pulling just stops accelerating.

Just got me a 2021 Subaru wrx and have been wanting to mod it just a tad, was really debating on getting a blow off but had no idea about anything, just wanted to hear the car but the info you give is so great, thanks man! Wish me luck on my little build

I have a GFB Decepter Pro 2, with a module I can use to open and close the valve from in the cabin. Basically for the sound and the novelty. Once I got the cobb intake I barely open the BOV and keep it on recirc most of the time. The sound from the intake is better when its closed (the cobb one sounds like a flutter).

So basically, if you are after sound, you may as well just get the intake and avoid aftermarket bov, your wallet will thank me.

Thanks for helping me choose which one to get!

I like my Perrin recirc. Helps hold moderate pressure in charge pipes between shifts unlike the oem bpv the dumbs everything and you have to build it back up.

Nice video. Just installed the Boomba BPV on my 2020 WRX. Absolutely feel the difference, better throttle response, definitely can feel the HP Gains. Little Flutter between shifts.

Off throttle compressor surge does not slow the turbo and yes people have tested it, the "stall" is the air flow separating from the blades, it's actually better for response then running a valve because boost pressure is not released and doesn't need to be built up again, this is why it's common place in motorsport not to run a valve.

i'm using a gfb response bov on my wrx .Set to 90/10 recirculate and it runs fine

From my (albeit very limited) understanding (planning on a ‘21 STI build next year):

BOV = better sound, only goes well with Stage 2 and further upgrades

BPV = better reliability, actually built for the EJ motors, doesn’t require a tune at lower stages
