We rebuilt a forest from zero - this is how

In only three years one of Germany’s largest forests has turned from dark green tree cover to a graveyard of dead wood. The reason: rising temperatures and monoculture forestry.

In our third mission, we have partnered with Harz National Park, to turn things around and transform this stressed ecosystem into a strong and climate resilient forest.

A big thank you to heiermann4future for facilitating this mission.

Thank you for replanting this forest, I have always worked in forestry as a harvester and we always make sure that every tree we cut has at least 2-3 trees for every 1 tree we cut and I at least leave creeks and beds for animals I don’t touch those place again thank you for replanting this forest

"Even though we´re surrounded by thousands of dead trees, we´re not standinng in a dead forest." Yes, you said it twice already but it´s worth mentioning over and over. This is a teaching at the heart of what people need to understand about the processes of wild life. Life is everywhere! Thank you, well said.

These spruce trees have been living on borrowed time all along, but very sad to see them die all at the same time. Good job on accelerating the natural restoration

Biodiversity is such an important part of a healthy ecosystem!
Thanks for making sure that the forest will have a more robust defence against the bugs and humans 🐛

Seeing people do this kind of thing to help save the planet when all I normally hear about in the world is doom and gloom is really inspiring, you just earned a loyal sub and supporter today. Keep up the good work and I'll try to help any way I can! :)

I went camping in Harz region last year and it was indeed shocking how fast this ecosystem had collapsed. Amazing to see you guys are doing something about it, proud to be a backer ❤️

I love this! I have a personal mission to rewild urban spaces. I encourage everyone I know to craft water features in their yards. I will also help people who need it. Adding water features like small ponds creates spaces for animals. Birds, frogs, and small mammals will use yard ponds as sources of water. When drought comes, amphibians use it to breed, and small prey draws raptors and provides food for foxes. Recently, a local wetland dried during an extremely hot summer, and we found a turtle trying to get through to our pond. We helped him out, and he/she spent the hot season with us. When the rains came and the wetlands refilled, we returned him to his natural environment. Build a pond create an ecosystem.

Wonderful! I'm a proud member of Mossy Earth, which you surely know but I was longing to find something similar happening in Germany!

Dankeschön, es ist richtig gut zu wissen, dass solche Projekte nun auch hier passieren - ich bin direkt Member geworden! :)

I basically grew up in that forest. in a sense. It's so near by the area I grew up, we went there multiple times every weekend in the summer. I absolutly remember the dense trees, the biodiversity. Seeing it now is soo, soo shoking. it really hurts.

So cool! Very interesting point about it NOT being a dead forest ... fascinating to learn about all the life in this tree graveyard.

Keep up the amazing work 🌳💪💚
