Labour's smoking ban will not apply to pub gardens, says health secretary

Health Secretary Wes Streeting has told Sky News that Labour are "not proposing to go ahead" with a ban on smoking in pub gardens or outdoor hospitality, saying that this was a "leak of a government discussion".

Mr Streeting says the hospitality industry has "taken a battering" and he does not "want to add to their pressures".

This comes as the government will introduce a new policy that will prevent anyone born after 1 January 2009 from buying tobacco. Mr Streeting describes this as a "groundbreaking" piece of legislation that will create the "first ever smoke-free generation".

Can we PLEASE stop treating vaping as if it is the same as smoking? It isn't. For those of us who use vapes as a way out of a crushing and debilitating addiction to cigarettes, we'd prefer some encouragement. Sure, get rid of disposables. I don't know anyone who has stopped smoking through disposables. But those of us dealing with our addiction in a manner better not only for our own health but also for the health of those around us would kinda like a pat on the back here.
