Our first run of the new Parsun 20 hp 4-stroke Jet Drive outboard motor. We jigged a transom jack to set the jet intake at the bottom of the keel on an 11' Bakerview Aluminum RIB Inflatable boat with a shallow "V" and a keel-guard strip installed. GPS showed us making 21 mph, 33.5 kph or 18.25 knots.
We've never run a jet outboard before and found what we were told is true: they are less efficient than a propeller drive and feel different as well. The thrust was more equivalent to a 15 hp prop drive, but more than a 9.8 hp for sure. One nice thing: while looking at the outboard we went right over a small log. Should have had the video on but probably would have dropped the phone. No damage and you couldn't say that with a prop drive.
We'll mount the same 20 hp outboard with a prop drive on the same boat and compare.
Our initial thought is this would be excellent for running shallow waters.
