I 100% believe Mihawk didn't wanna do anything in the war of the best because he didn't want to kill ace or go against whitebeard. Even if they weren't friends, Whitebeard earned the respect of most of the pirates on the planet by the time Roger was crowned and senseless bloodshed isn't his style, so picking a fight with vista and vibing for most of the war would be a good way to pass the time.

personally this makes hella sense especially why he smiled and was happy meeting zoro+training him somewhat, i don’t actually think shanks and mihawk fought each other for that title personally based off of how they acted in the bits we got it’s more like a softer version of whitebeard and rogers friendship, where one had a goal of turning the world upside down and the other jusr wants a family, maybe with shanks it’s something like that, and mihawk clearly likes his peace. shanks is such a mystery lol

In marinford all he did was did a light swing towards whitebeard, and jozu was barely able to deflect it. Dang near just lifted it up above his head and let it drop. He fought vista while looking at Luffy and giving us dialogue.

We never saw Mihawk doing something other than calm slashes. He doesnt hunt rabbids with a cannon. He is very consistent. That dude doesnt fight Shanks because he thinks he has an unfair advantage....
