In today’s English language grammar video, we look at the past simple passive versus the past simple. The choice between the past simple passive and the past simple is a stylistic one. What do you want the topic of your sentence to be? We put the topic of our sentence first, as the subject of our sentence. If we want the subject to be the doer, the agent, then we use the past simple. If we want the subject to in fact be the object, then we can use the past simple passive. We form the past simple passive with the verb ‘be’ in the past, was / were, plus the past participle.
