There's a reason why the B29 cost more than the Manhattan project.

Everyone talks about German Wonder Weapons, but The American B29 really feels like one too

My Dad was a tailgunner on B-29s. He had 6 confirmed kills. He told me with the computer system they had a 97% chance of shoot down.

That's actually pretty cool for that time. Don't know why you don't have a larger following, but you gained one. Keep it up

It's always really cool to look at old computing tech like this. Once MiGs were the main threat, this was too slow. B-29s could only be operated safely at night over korea

The most expensive equipment on the bomber.

That’s crazy, considering how competitively little the b-29 was used in combat compared to other bombers. It saw the end of WWII after air superiority had been established

I wish I could have asked my grandpa about this. He was a gunner on a B-29 but he died in 2009.

It was called the "amplidyne" system iirc. It worked (greatly simplifying) by generating voltages according to where the guns were pointed, and where it computed they should be pointing. If the two were different, the error itself resulted in a signal to the turret traverse and elevation motors, thus making the system accurate despite all the variables. It helped get rid of a problem that had affected most gun turrets in WW2, where discrete elevation and traverse movements to track a diagonally moving aircraft was exceedingly hard to do. The British solved this problem a different way with the "Rose" turret fitted to some Lancasters, but theirs was a mechanical rather than an electrical solution.

This would be life changing for War Thunder B-29 pilots

The b-29 is my favorite warplane. I’ve heard it was such a complex plane that the Soviets couldn’t figure out how it worked and by the time they did the plane was already outdated. It’s such a cool plane from the design down to the tech.

I once had the pleasure to meet a WW2 vet who flew as a gunner when I was much younger. I pointed to the device and asked what it was. He was nice and explained what it was, and he also told me if they were ever going to crash they were told to toss it from the plane so no one would get their hands on it.

I already know theses fact from a bout a year ago when I researched this, but thank you soo much for making a video about this no one knows the technology available in ww2 in the super fortress

I watched the training film for the B-29 and I still am amazed at early ballistic computers.
Meanwhile, other planes just used their gun sights

I always love old tech like this, and targeting systems of battleships
