Excellent performance, as usual, from Manchester's multi-talented Pink Floyd tribute band, Manc Floyd. Saturday 27th July, 2013 at Bury Met theatre.

The Great Gig in the Sky (Wright/Torry) appears on the 1973 Pink Floyd 'Dark Side of the Moon' album.

'The Dark Side of the Moon' has sold 40 million copies worldwide and was in the UK album charts for seven years and the US album charts for fourteen years.
The title is an allusion to lunacy rather than astonomy.

Trivia.
I last saw Pink Floyd perform this song at the Palace theatre, Manchester in 1974 on their DSOTM/Crazy Diamond tour.
I also saw Pink Floyd perform this song in Feb and March 1972 on the DSOTM Tour at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester..
Selective electricity cuts (miner's strikes) plunged Manchester into darkness halfway through the Feb gig so they played it all again for us in March. Heaven! Two gigs for the price of one.

The Great Gig in the Sky is played, in Ibiza, at the Cafe del Mar in San Antonio. Just as the sun sets over the sea. If the DJ gets his timing right, the song finishes just as the sun disappears below the horizon.
