The London Bridge stood for hundreds of years before it started to fall apart in the 18th century. It has now been replaced with the ugliest bridge ever known to mankind

Nobody ever talks about the fire of 1212 on the bridge which killed 3000 and destroyed all the buildings on the bridge. Between 1212 and 1666 it was referred to as the great fire of london. So the fire of 1666 was actually the 2nd great fire of london.

The old London Bridge stood for over 600 years. It was continuously inhabited for over 500 years. It was torn down in 1831.

Would be cool to make a computer simulation for VR or regular computer so that people may move around and explore this bridge to see what it was like.

London bridge is one of my favorite parts of English history. Greetings from the southern US.

They should bring back that style of bridge. Imagine living on a cozy dense little street, but literally overlooking the river at the same time.

That bridge was a city in itself. Crazy stuff.

Paris had half a dozen bridges like that, full of pretty medieval houses. The first bridge on which no houses were built was the one from the 17th century, called the "Pont neuf" (new bridge). It is the oldest bridge of Paris right now, but it's still called the New Bridge.

The Thames used to froze not because of the bridge piers, but because of the global cooling that Europe was experiencing at that time. If anything, the water under the bridge is way swifter and fast flowing water is less likely to freeze.

Other tidbits:
The archway of that church spire is part of the approach to the old bridge.
There was a royal palace on the bridge.
The bridge was 8m wide but all the buildings reduced the effective width to just 4m.
The bridge has the first ever traffic rule in that wagons travel on the left side of the street.

Three parts of old London I would love to have seen are this bridge, the original St Paul's Cathedral and the Palace of Westminster.

If I could magically have any ancient building or structure from London's past survive today. It would be the old London Bridge.

The London bridge was falling down because it had too many houses in it, it’s not falling down anymore, but it’s in Arizona and is said to be haunted

I am sure that I remember a similar model in from a 1950s school trip to The London Museum when it was located at Kensington Palace.

There was what we call today a four story block of apartments on the north bank called Nonsuch House. It was finished in 1579 during the reign of Elizabeth I. It was a much sought after place to live in those days

The council should replace a replica bridge. It would be THE destination to go.
