GitHub Shut Down a Major AI Builder Overnight—Here's what happened why it gets worse in 2025

Takeaways:
3. Emergency Workaround: Lovable attempted to shift operations to Amazon S3 to maintain service, but the workaround underscored the challenges of finding alternatives to GitHub’s social and technical ecosystem.
4. Architectural Challenges Ahead: AI workflows and autonomous coding agents are driving exponential growth, requiring infrastructure providers to rethink their systems for 2025 and beyond.
5. Dependency Risks: Lovable’s reliance on GitHub highlights the importance of platform redundancy, especially as AI adoption accelerates usage beyond traditional human coding speeds.
6. Future Infrastructure Demands: SaaS platforms and developer tools must adapt to AI-driven user interactions, which will radically shift usage patterns and introduce new security and authentication challenges.
7. Call for Proactive Refactors: Infrastructure providers must address scalability, redundancy, and security now to avoid outages and support the growth of AI-augmented workflows.

Quotes:
“We’re facing exponential growth from AI-driven coding—and this is just the beginning.”
“AI workflows are reshaping infrastructure demands, forcing providers to adapt to new usage patterns at an unprecedented scale.”

I really like the story from the early days of Sony, told by Akio Morita, where they didn't give a discount on a large order of equipment, but instead increased the price, to the surprise of an American customer. But it was a smart move - Sony needed to expand production to fulfill the large order, and this expanded capacity might not be needed in the future, so the customer had to pay for such changes. If you, the customer, have become incredibly productive with AI, be kind enough to become very solvent at the same time.

I enjoy your videos. You get to the point and offer awesome perspective.

I like the idea that as the AI dominos fall, there will be a cascade of unforeseen consequences to how we currently have our IT fameworks and infrastructure built/designed. If we can see 2 or 3 dominos ahead, there could be massive business opportunities or areas for thought leadership.

my go the amount of slop they must be churning out

"Vegeta how many new repos did he make within the time I said this?"
"It's over 9000!!"

I wonder how science journals will cope with AI generated papers that are signed by humans and submitted for review.

who does a 1 repo per 2 seconds. Like what? Are these small projects? What are these even?

Deepseek artifacts is next... I question the value of making all badly generated code publically available. It seems if future llms are trained on badly generated code will result in declining quality.

They were leaning pretty heavily on FREE GitHub. This could have been something as simple as the wrong data type somewhere in the pipeline or a setting in a queue. Git provides a ready solution in remotes and the "everything is local" design.

So people will have to use agents just to go through all these agent-created sites. At some point it's mostly just AI talking to AI. Maybe we won't be needed at all.

If you have exponential growth then you need to become a vertical solution, quickly

All these people building useless apps, or creating YouTube videos about their 100K per month no coding skills. AI is certainly useful but let’s face it connecting to a database, using style sheets and bolting in libraries was hardly rocket science. If I see one more person who thinks they are Einstein creating a landing page and connecting it to firebase by asking an ‘AI’ …. It’s like mushrooming s**t coin / NFT bros all over again.

lovable should utilize the open source git framework and self host it without using github specifically. problem solved

you might want to look into a software like gitea?

Wait sorry I'm a bit of a noob, what does this mean? That a big repository of code for building AI models got removed?

AI is hype until we can elect AIs to positions of real power... corporate board rooms and politics.
If AI is as great as they claim, then we would benefit from AI's superiority in allocating resources.

If you are refactoring now then you are too late. This should been done in 23 or the latest Q1 24. The writing has been on the wall a long time.

It's wild how infrequently even smart people don't think more than one move ahead, or use creativity in doing so.
