There is a reference to the popular show How I Met Your Mother in this movie! Neil Patrick Harris said "Challenge accepted!" when he is challenged to a duel by Albert - and it was his famous catchphrase from the TV show! Interestingly, the writers were not aware of this when they were writing the movie. Therefore, they did not understand why audiences were laughing at the actor's remarks during test screenings! But…

Well yeah, that phrase is really generic. Compare it to how Neil would say legendary and you can see the difference between his two phrases. It's unique enough

There's another one.
When Albert is telling Foy what kind of moustache he wants, Foy referred to it at a "Mosbius" after Ted Mosby.

If they didn't know they were making a reference then it's not a reference

It was actually a reference to the movie Gladiator. Where, in that movie, they say words as well.

So it isn't a reference to the show at all. It's just the proper response to say challenge accepted after someone challenges you.

It just shows that most writers don’t even pay attention to the stuff their actors are in or played.

Kind of a stretch there, but I guess its a reference. Or its just a normal response to what Albert said. Its not even funny, so the fact test audiences laughed shows how dumb those test audiences were.
