🌟 Bishop Fulton J. Sheen uses the metaphor of a self-conscious pencil to illustrate the importance of being obedient and supple in the hands of Christ. Just as a pencil must follow the writer's intent, we too must align our will with God's divine will. Sheen emphasizes that true sainthood and Christian identity come from fully surrendering ourselves to God, allowing Him to guide our lives without resistance. This profound message encourages us to embrace our true identity in Christ and find freedom in complete devotion. #FultonSheen #ChristianIdentity #TotalSurrender #DivineWill #SpiritualObedience

Just as you recognize the basic challenges and difficulties that children encounter as essential for their growth and maturation, your own struggles, no matter how daunting they may seem, serve a similar purpose in your journey towards fulfillment. When you overlook this truth or fail to acknowledge it, you risk falling into Satan's deception of comparing and exaggerating the hardships of life, as if to say, "My problems are more severe than those of a child."

You observe these challenges as opportunities for children to learn and develop, perhaps even finding humor in their innocence and the lessons they must learn. Similarly, when you find yourself in turmoil, frustrated, or bewildered by circumstances, it's crucial to understand that in the eyes of God or someone wiser and more experienced, you are still akin to that child—simply in the process of learning and growing. This perspective reminds you that adversity is a universal path to wisdom and maturity, regardless of age or circumstance.

Dam-est, hardest thing to do in the whole universe. It is exhausting me and I'm not young any longer. I've been asked but I have an awful, awful war going on within. I've told Christ I'll wash dishes in his kingdom for the rest of time and history, I'll serve him but please, NO, I can't say yes, I can't commit myself to his will, entirely. It is too serious a thing and I fear I am unworthy. It is destroying my spiritual life. I am caught up in a battle of contraries.
Footnote: I actually met Bishop Sheen when he was bishop of Rochester NY. I was working as sacristan at a local church. He was as impressive as he looks. Scary as heck. I finally left the church, never to return, a few years later.
