Hari Om!
Swami Aparajitananda excels in the art of filling in gaps between two verse-thoughts with irrefutable logic - the Scriptural way.
Nachiketa, sacrificing self to auspicious death as putra-dhana, approaches father firmly to ask permission to leave inspite of father's attempts to dissuade him.
Mantra 6: Nachiketa gives wisdom to follow noble men of past and present, not to waste transient life unintelligently compromising and spoiling future in taking rebirths.
Swamiji discusses glorified disobedience suggesting how to say NO sweetly and firmly giving examples of Rāma and Bharata. Swamiji also elaborates on living sticking to the Truth which gives joy even in death versus miserable compromised living - by inspiring examples of freedom fighters and Swami Shivananda advising an officer.
Swamiji appreciates Nachiketa, the son as Guru giving values to father and makes a very important statement, viz. wherever there is rāga (attachment), moha and pāpa karma follow to bring only sorrows. This is explained by examples of ancient and modern parents.
How Nachiketa lives and reaches Yamaloka is another fascinating gap which is filled by the surprised wife of Yamarāja, inspite of whose request, Nachiketa waits outside.
Mantra 7: Request by wife to Yamarāja to take water and propitiate and worship noble guest, Nachiketa.
Swamiji wonderfully explains -
• how to handle fire - a double-edged weapon and power
• how visit of a noble person is comparable with Akshaya-tritīya and
• Brāhmana (noble person) as symbol of Knowledge and sukha; disrespecting him as welcoming inauspicious ignorance.
(Next: what one loses by disrespecting noble guest and vice versa i.e. what one gets by respecting Brāhmana guest.)
(Kathopanishad - Talk 4 - 1.1, mantras 6 & 7)
