Upside down water glass, NEW VERSION of an old trick

preview_player
Показать описание
A new take on a classic demonstration, the simple water glass turned upside down has a new twist when a balloon is used instead of a flat card.. The seal is improved enough that the jar of water can shaken and spun around without the water being spilled out. The weight of water inside the jar causes a slight pressure drop inside when turned upside down, with a lower pressure inside the jar, atmospheric pressure pushes against the balloon, which in turn seals the opening of the jar so the water stays inside. This behavior would be similar to the action of a suction cup. A more detailed explanation and more examples will be shown in a follow up longer version posted to my channel.

The balloon holding the water in on the inverted bottle was already amazing then Bruce took it one step further by spinning the bottle around. THANK YOU FOR THIS.

Mr. Yeaney still killing it with the science videos. I will always remember his class

I've had the honor and pleasure to have had a couple of teachers as enthusiastic and articulate as you, sir. Thank you for reminding me of them while sharing with us your beautiful perspective of the world.

Fabulous, you can learn something every day if you pay attention. People ask me how did you know that, and I always tell them I learned it from someone who knew more than I did.

Was really hoping you were going to take the balloon away while it was upside down and the water stayed in.
That's a good trick to learn. As long as you obviously let your students know afterwards that it's just a trick of course!

Not only atmospheric pressure, but also the facts that water is basically incompressible and heavier than air.

That was some extremely impressive swinging

Learned something new today and I am sixty!

Pretty impressive
I'd have imagined the centrifugal force combined with the air pushing against the side of swinging balloon on jar would have broken the seal... Guessing must be a limit to the speed it can be swung as with a syphon hight!

I'll treat this like a magic trick. First I'll show my grandkids how water will stay in the open top jar when it is swung around with the open top towards the center of the arc. Then using the jar prepared like the one in this video claim the ballon has magical powers and swing the jar. Thanks for sharing.

I think it's not only the air pressure has something to do with that, surface tension also does something

I have a feeling, sir, that you weigh the same as a duck.

Might be a crazy question but would this work with a carbonated beverage

Does the water surface tension have anything to do with this? Intuitively, concave surface is strong here, surface tension of balloon on water, producing concave surface where they touch, seems related as much or more so than atmospheric pressure. Idk - wild!
