In case you haven’t met me, my name is Natali Edmonds and I am a board certified geropsychologist. That means that I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in working with older adults. One day, while hiking a trail, I came up with the idea for Careblazers and I decided to see if posting videos online could provide help to the many other Careblazers in the world who don’t get to have help come directly to them in their homes. I hope that this work helps you in some way on your caregiving journey.

My wife had Parkinson's and Lewy Body and I was the care giver for 3 years.  I loved her so dearly and was happy to do it.  The last 6 months I put her into memory care so that I could get some sleep, but I picked her up at 5 AM until 5 PM everyday, without fail. She died 3/21/19.  It was a big shock to me but it is really what we both wanted.  The big problem is that I got left behind and that hurts.  After 3 days I can talk about her without crying and I am just about over my deep depression and ready to continue life.  Thanks for your channel and advice.Bill

My mother has vascular dementia which caused by 3 strokes. Had it for 4 years. She is not the same person as she was before. She's no longer interested in any activities except knitting. She did lose most of her memory. Recently, I have notice that she just losing more memories or can't remember the words. There are days she can get moody.
She has bedsores, her doctors advises her to walk more often. But she is not interested in walking. No matter how hard I tried to persuade her to walk but no avail. It's up to her. If she wants sit all day long so be it. I can't force her to do it. If I force her, she will get mad.
As she slowly progresses, and I am learning to how to take care of her. I enjoyed watching videos and it helps me to prepare down the road when she starts to get worse.

Thank you for this Vascular Dementia segment. My mom was diagnosed with vascular Dementia since 2008 she's now 81yrs. Old and iam Greatful and Thankful that she is still here. Though my whole career (1989-current) as a C.N.A taking care of stroke patients and patients with Alzheimer's still didn't prepare me for my role as a caregiver to a parent, but thanks to you and all your videos, you have assisted me in being an amazing CARE BLAZER😁. THANK YOU so much

My mother came out of a long hospital stay in Dec which left her nothing like herself. She could no longer walk a long distance and use the bathroom at all. After several months I spoke with my mother about selling our home and moving into a home with a better bedroom and bath for her. Since covet came buying a house quickly has become impossible although I have sold this house. This was all checked out before hand by two trust lawyers and had my mother’s blessing. Since my mother mental state has declined she has begun to accuse me of stealing her money or something’s I don’t really understand. Several times she has said I have broken her heart and said I talk like a con man. My girlfriend and i have been talking care of her for 20 or more years but for the first time I have become afraid and don’t know how to calm her or continue helping if she thinks I am doing something wrong.
thanks

My mother has been diagnosed with Vascular Dementia. She was diagnosed two years ago and has undergone a lot of changes since. It has been determined that she has had no strokes. Doctors have also found that my mother likely has Parkinsonism. I was told that this goes hand-in-hand with Vascular Dementia. Thank you for your videos, which give much needed information and helps us to be aware of various dementias (my father has Fronto Lobal Dementia) and how to be better care givers. I never miss your wonderful videos!

Thank you so much for all you do. Very informative video. I have watched a lot of your videos and you are wonderful, thank you. My husband was recently diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia. We had genetic testing done to see if he carries the gene for this and he does not. He is one of the rare cases that has this form of dementia but no one knows why. Could you do a video on this type of dementia? Any help would be appreciated more than you could know.
