yup sounds just like mine. Regular tapping/knocking at cold start, stays and does not go away when the engine heats up. Getting ready to deal with this now. Happy New Year!

So... here's the issue. RAM, because they are now rejects has been so nice as to not put sufficient (ANY AT ALL!?) notches on the crank (where they are supposed to be) which then splashes up oil to the top of the motor. It is basically drive them hard to avoid lifter damage... or drive like a grandpa like I do.. and at 47k on my 22 it's already gettin there. And I know it's gonna get worse. Terrible flaw.. bullshit if you ask me. Dodge says all hemis do it. Uhhh, ya.. you designed them! F n a holes. And im an idler.. even worse!! If you ask me, they should be held responsible because they knowingly produce them that way.

I have a 2018 in the shop for this right now. Thing is it’s never just the lifters. That cam needs to be replaced too. Every Hemi with that tick has to have a new cam. Oil pan should also be pulled and the pump
Checked out. Those bearings B from the lifters can end up in the pump. No more Fiat Chrysler gas engines for me or my family.

Lots of people are finding out its not the lifters its broken exhaut manifolds bolts.. that sounds more like that

Put 5w-30 it will go away big first prime the engine put ur foot on the gas fully to the floor don’t let go of the pedal till the engine stops cranking let the starter cool down then start it drive it for a few days you will notice the tick go away I did this and it worked

Yup I’m getting ready to trade mine in for a Tacoma, it’s still under warranty but the fact that it has not even hit 90k and I already had to have a new motor put in. It’s crazy how the cars you baby the most are the ones that last the least.

If you found this video and you want to avoid this, it's super easy. Oil cooler, 180 thermostat. Thats it. And if you have a pre-eagle 5.7, get eagle heads put on it. You will never have a premature lifter failure. It's a lot more rare than people like to think. Also they will sound similar to this on cold start due to header-head leaks. Very often, the header studs stretch or crack on these engine which will make this noise. Typically, once it warms up, it will go away if it is the exhaust making the noise

My stepdads truck had the lifter tick, but it also had an exhaust leak that ticked and sounded the same if you were inside the truck. But the timing chain tensioner failed and the timing chain snapped at 4500 rpm sending a hole through the block and cracking the head from where the piston rammed into the valves. With 110k miles and consistent service. I’m not buying a hemi 😂

Mopar needs to recall these junky engines!

It’s pretty easy n cheap to upgrade cam n lifters n a better oil pump the only real issue with these hemi is the oil pressure isn’t very great at idle

Did it throw a check engine light? My ram is identical to the one in your video. Things running like a champ with 163000 miles.

If it doesn’t change with the rpm’s, it’s your exhaust manifolds not lifter.

Hi I have a high speed rattle/chattering that happens around 1500-2000 rpms when I give it a little throttle it seems to always go away. But it seems like its doing it more frequently now. It doesn't do it at all at idle that I've ever noticed. Its in a 2011 Jeep grand Cherokee with the 5.7 Hemi. I cant seem to find any videos that have the similar issue. Most that I find that's saying bad lifters it does it at idle. What do you think? Am I screwed if I cant afford a 5k shop repair? Thanks for your time and your video!

That’s gotta be a manifold problem if it died after revving it up! The air/fuel mixture is corrupted by a leak in the manifold. Try running a heavier oil and see if it gets rid of the ticking.

Just replaced my engine in my 2012 ram with the 5.7 . Cost me. 8500k . 140k miles very well maintained changed oil every 4 k miles. This is not supposed to happen. Chrysler products suck and I will never change buy another Chrysler product

Mine started sounding like this but I changed the exhaust bolts and it went away.

For those who are starting to have this problem or not at all, replace the oil pump by the Hellcat oil pump. Not enough volume of oil gets splashed around at idle causing this to happen. Dont idle a 5.7 that’s how they fail. Unfortunately you can replace only the cam and lifters but when you hear that much, there’s already too much metal inside the engine to permanently damage it. Needs new engine or rebuild if not too damaged.

I had a lifter fail. New engine was the fix.

question, why does ur engine sound like that? ive been tryna figure it out because mine sounds the same where it has the hemi tick and the fan is extremely loud when revving, only difference is mine has never shut off, thought it could be from trying to build oil pressure but i talked to my dad and he said nah that wouldn't be it

Don’t listen to this guy, if your worried, remove your mds solenoid then you can check the magnet at the bottom of the sensor for metal particles, if it’s clean, your good . This sound is normal
