MBBS admission for NRI Quota in NEET gives students residing outside India an opportunity to return to their homeland and practice medicine. Apart from the 15 percent All India Quota (AIQ) and 85 percent State Quota, deemed universities in India offer admission to NRI students under the 15 percent NRI quota in NEET reserved by the Medical Council of India. Both, Persons of Indian Origin (POI) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are included in the NRI Quota. However, it is necessary for them to clear NEET 2023 to get admission to any medical college.

Who Are NRI Candidates?
A candidate falls into the NRI quota in NEET if he/ she meets the following criteria:

The candidate must be of Indian origin and settled in a foreign country.

Indian citizens’ children staying abroad for business or employment are also considered NRI.

Candidates who are born abroad but the parents are of Indian origin fall under the NRI category.

Candidates who are children of State/ Central Government employees who are staying abroad on deputation period are considered as NRI.

Candidates should also be residing abroad and gain the status of an NRI (by living outside for 5 years).

In Rajasthan, the fee structure for NRI candidates studying in government medical colleges underwent a revision in the year 2020. After the subsequent changes were made, candidates are now required to deposit $30,000 during the time of admission and then pay $15,000 separately per semester.

In the state of Puducherry, NRI students studying at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute are required to pay $100,000 for the entire course. Out of this, $15,000 is considered a caution deposit which is a refundable amount.

Other than the NRI quota in government medical colleges, these states also have NRI quotas for NRI students to various private medical colleges.

There are also some states such as Gujarat, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu that provide NRI students with self-financed course seats. All the deemed medical colleges and universities offer a 15% reservation quota for students who are non-residential Indians and the counselling is carried out by NCC.
