So far most comments have completely missed the point.  He said Amazon is just delivering their own stuff.  Granted, on a much larger scale than anyone else has ever done before.  But until they start to deliver items you buy on Walmart.com, or Home Depot.com or items that you have purchased directly from any other web retailer, they are NOT a transportation company.  Just remember this, once upon a time, many "experts" said that UPS and FedEx were going to put the Post Office out of business and they were wrong.  Then those same "experts" doubled down their bets and said that email was going to put the Post Office out of business, and they were wrong again.  And nobody has ever accused the Post Office of be innovative or cutting edge.  P.S. If you think that Amazon is "big" remember that in 1997 the Teamsters struck at UPS and shut the company down 15 or 16 days.  It nearly ground the US economy to a halt.  All of the other US transportation companies including USPS and FedEx combined did not have enough capacity to absorb all of the package volume from a world without UPS.  And that was long before the rise of E-commerce added hundreds of millions of packages moving thru those companies transportation networks.

i offer this comment only as something to ponder, and not to argue. i think uncle fred was innovative in his day starting air freight. fedex is THE largest airline (cargo or passenger). fedex unknowingly built a network for something most of could never see coming back then....the internet. (remember....federal express started in 1973). were it me, i would give serious consideration to merge and become a partner in what could be a very shrewd business venture. something else to consider....were fedex to abandon its original corporate mission, all the business would then spill off onto ups, usps, and other carriers. thus causing an increasing in shipping costs and delivery load. i wonder if the the govt would even allow such an acquisition.

I can assure you FedEx is doing fine without Amazon. Amazon couldn't handle it if they cut off UPS. They will eventually but even still UPS will do just fine without them. This is a massive industry, Amazon is slowing becoming both a retailer and transportation industry.

Hes right stick with what you do best ...Amazon should stay in and concentrate in retail and grow their business in retail instead trying to create a delivery company and let UPS, FEDEX do what they do best TO DELIVER..

Fedex is scared to death of Amazon, ground drivers are poorly payed contractors and will leave immediately for Amazon. Amazon capital dwarfs both Fedex and Ups

I look forward to the day that Amazon disrupts FedEx. Just the other day FedEx delivered a piece of fitness equipment to my personal trainer’s home. When he opened the package the base of the item was damaged! The seller who is located in Canada filed a complaint over the damaged item which FedEx had caused despite the word “fragile” written all over the package. After weeks of attempting to resolve the situation FedEx denied the claim! The seller of the equipment basically had to eat the cost of the item despite FedEx’s obvious negligence by sending another shipment through a different courier. I too have had issues with FedEx which forces me to choose other options.
