The widespread use of opioids has been characterized as the worst man-made epidemic in modern medical history. From 1999 to 2015, more than 183,000 people died in the U.S. from overdose related to prescription opioids.

Featured Speaker: Thomas Wickizer, PhD, Chair and Stephen F. Loebs Professor, The Ohio State University College of Public Health

A widely respected expert in the areas of health services research and health policy, Dr. Thomas Wickizer specializes in health economic analysis, workers’ compensation medical care, health care improvement, and quality of care assessment. He has done extensive research in the areas of substance abuse effects and treatment, health outcomes assessment and effects of quality improvement initiatives.

In this seminar, Dr. Wickizer reviews the nature and scope of the opioid problem within both workers’ compensation and the general
population and will summarize the state of current initiatives aimed at addressing this public health crisis.
