Secretary of the US Air Force Frank Kendall along with Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Andrew Hunter has provided important insights on the US Air Forces plans in a keynote address at the 2023 Air and Space Forces Association's Warfare Symposium in Aurora, Colorado.

Significant details have been revealed related to NGAD or Next Generation Air Dominance platform and CCA or Collaborative Combat Aircraft

Kendall stated US Air Force leadership has "recently given our planners a nominal quantity of collaborative combat aircraft to assume for planning purposes. The planning assumption is 1,000 CCAs,"
He explained,"This figure was derived from an assumed two CCAs for [each of] 200 NGAD platforms, and an additional two for each of 300 F-35s, for a total of 1,000."

This is the first time the service has given a real sense of the scope and scale of its plans for these two future aircraft types.

In this video Defense Updates analyzes why US Air Force will keep dominating the skies?

Man, we are getting pretty great. Keep it up.

It seems like the USAF is 1.5 to 2 generations ahead of the competition. Good for US.

A Rapid Dragon type launch of CCA to accompany the B-21 on it's last leg of the mission might be the most cost effective way to do it.

Personal protection UAVs for tankers and AWACs might be a neat idea. Plus, those big planes could refuel their drones.

Time to send out one of the unmanned drones to "accidentally" collide with a bear or blackjack flying towards Alaska.

I am glad the general said that they intend to avoid "gold plating" the drones. Typically, the Air Force keeps changing and adding requirements on weapons systems and drive the cost up. Then Congress decides it's too expensive. Often then they either cancel it outright or reduce the procurement, which drives up unit cost, which reduces procurement, which increases unit cost....
We need to keep common sense when we plan. Something with slightly less capability that is useful is MUCH better than the nothing we get when we make something unaffordable.
I hope we can fill the skies with these things protecting our tankers and AWACS and drawing fire away from our pilots.

Before the USA MILITARY wastes anymore $$$, invest more heavily, buy more than 200 NGADs. Just read that the Air Force is considering the F22 obsolete (25 years old, never really used).

I'm proud of the engineering and development that our country has, so I'm not saying "waste" in a derogatory manner.
GO USA !!

You guys should read up on the AIs behind future fighter drones. They had a competition between 9-10 AIs from top Tech companies, The winner had a 75% win rate vs other AIs, They tested the winning AI vs a experienced combat pilot in a simulator, AI 5, Pilot 0. That was 3 years ago, Scary to think how much more it has improved considering AIs are all about learning.

The dichotomy of quality vs. quantity between our way and their way seems to be getting more apparent.

If anyone thinks a 2:1 CCA ratio is what they are really aiming for is wrong. I assume the real target is somewhere around 12:1. And the 200 NGAD is for the AirForce, but you are mistaken if you don't think the Navy will want some.

Plus, Crop Dusters for CAS.
Don't forget about the AT-802U.

Imagine being the guy that has to explain themselves to the others once they cross over and say he got dusted by a crop duster.

200 NGAD is woefully inadequate. Consider that the F22 Rapto production was stopped after 185 planes, and the Air Force is hard pressed to put 150 of them in service, and the F22 is now considered a soon to be abandoned platform. If the NGAD numbers stop at 200, that's only around 15 more than F22, so you can draw your own conclusions.

Enable B-21s to refuel the CCAs. You'll get shorter range in the B-21 but having a fighter escort all the way has benefits. However forward basing CCAs would mean less flight hours per mission on the CCA fleet and lead to longer service lifetime.

The exact timeline for the implementation of NGAD platforms will depend on a variety of factors, including the progress of the development program, budget constraints, and operational requirements. It is likely that some NGAD technologies will be implemented in the near future, while the full deployment of NGAD platforms may take several years or even decades.

The US Air Force has already conducted test flights of NGAD prototypes, and it is expected that these platforms will be integrated into the military's operational capabilities in the coming years. However, the exact timeline for the deployment of NGAD platforms will likely remain subject to change based on a variety of factors.

I think it's a 2 man jet a pilot and weapons co pilot. To overlook the drone swarm mission and tracking capability . This drone swarms will have different capability jammers bunker buster depends saturation for SAMs armed recon add AI for resistance in jamming add constellation of satellite communication

Sounds ambitious but doable, just don't overlook the missiles: quickly upgradeable and generally cost effective.

The NGAD acquisition is an evolving plan, so the first stage is for 200, then in 10 or so years they will order the next 200 of next gen aircraft, so on and so forth. I imagine by the third or fourth cycle they will be trans-atmosheric craft.
