Keti Gray (she turns 99 today as I comment) is a living legend of Greek folk music. Any other nation would officially celebrate this incredible singer, but Greece is so allergic to anything to do with its folk culture and non-western heritage. Some circles would eagerly wish you to be burned at the stake if you dared to say that Keti Gray, Marinella, Giota Lydia or Alexiou and Vitali, if you wish, should be the real face of Greek music to the world, rather than, say, Callas. Unfortunately, I came to Greece too late, so I never had the chance to see Gray on stage.
