I found this to be an excellent presentation. Ms. Raoelison is a very articulate, well organized and compelling speaker. I am a clinical social worker but was still unable to recognize and escape the negative effects of being emotionally abused by my husband for many years. It is only a result of reading and seeing presentations like this that I am learning about my own situation and it is very enlightening, I admire her efforts to help the citizens of her country. I am not from Madagascar, but this did not deter me at all from relating to every single characteristic that she described in relation to emotional abuse.

I dismissed my problems comming from emotional abuse because it isn't consistent, BUT it does follow the cycle of abuse. The cycle of abuse has different phases: honeymoon phase, tension building phase and acute explosion phase. Also, there was a lot of gaslighting and false-victim blaming going on, so only recently has things made sense to me... So, it doesn't have to be consistent for it to be emotional abuse. It doesn't even need to be a conscious decision for it to be valid. People with good intentions can cause emotional abuse. This can be fixed with proper education on what emotional abuse is and giving healthier alternatives to meet their needs. But, people won't always want to fix their mistakes, so that is when you need to take care of yourself first. Also, emotional abuse is domestic violence. We deserve help.
