My strategic commentary breakdown of the Dune Imperium ring final at the first ever World Series of Board Gaming held in Las Vegas.

Joon joon, Sceadeau, Ron, and Gray conquer fear to let the spice flow.

This is not the original commentary for the game and I am not associated with WSBG in any fashion except as a consumer. This video was made with WSBG's permission.

only 20 minutes in but i just wanted to give you props for someone that’s played the game 2 times and not being able to see everything that’s going on I think your analysis is pretty good - clearly you have a solid understanding of games in general. well done man.

Just found your channel through Frosthaven stuff. This here is excellent commentary considering a) the very limited view of what's going on in the game and b) your limited experience with the game. Really well done, and thank you for showcasing this match!

Regarding your comment on positions 3 and 4 having some late game advantages: with strong players I would expect most games to end round 7. And for that reason, player 4 usually doesn't get to benefit from going first in a round 3 conflict, cementing it as the worst position. (Going late in the key first two rounds is also bad news.)

Most people think position 2 is the strongest because you get to go early in the first two rounds. This makes it almost impossible to stop you from getting your swordmaster round 2 - and I think early swordmaster is usually the right move. Even though you reveal one card fewer, the extra actions are just so strong. This is why I am not surprised that p4 won this game. p1 and p3 really stomped on each other a lot in the conflict - I don't think either of them made the sharpest moves there and it hurt both of them. For p2: I was pretty skeptical of the Selective Breeding opening, but interested to see how it would play out. I remain unconvinced. I think if it was genuinely good he would have won round 7.

1:55:18 - Why doesn't Grey pay 1 water to put 4 more troops into the conflict AND go to 9 points??? Seems like that would be the lock on the W!

Thanks for the commentary! It would be great to see what cards players are playing though

Just found your channel and have been flipping through some of the plays. Very nice to see games not on BGA and nice commentary, but man it sucks not being able to at least see the players' resources, if not their cards too. For example, I just passed the point you comment on Grey strangely paying spice to get 1vp now instead of saving the intrigue card for later in the game. My assumption would be he had 4 intrigue cards and needed to play 1 to avoid the potential steal. But I can't tell that for sure because I can't see his hand size. (edit: just played on and you make the same guess. But you wouldn't need to guess if you could see he had 4).

If your agent goes to a battle square and you don't deploy troops, but you have cards with battle point effects, do you still take part in the battle via the cards? Or must you always have deployed troops in order to participate in the battle?

Is there a link for the player mat sheets so I can print some myself?

Most impossible to see the cards, on a game who’s is card strategy based that’s too bad 😅
