The 'Friend Zone' is such a freaking ridiculous concept. Like, oh no, a girl cares about you and trusts you! How truly awful. But you know what's worse than pining after a girl almost obsessively that you only pretended you be friends with and care about just on the off chance she'd fuck you? *When you put your trust into a guy thinking he was your friend, just to discover he was only ever interested in getting in your pants from the start.* Now THAT is fucking awful and worth making a song about, and it also really messes you up psychologically and makes you wary of trying to be friends with males in general.

I remember when this came out everyone was surprised how genuine the song was lyrically considering they're a comedy act.
Looking back on this song years later I think it's still very heartfelt and bittersweet. Even if it has funny lines it still feels like a legit heart ache song.
