Another very interesting video. I believe mfgs rate power banks at 3.7VDC and 10Ah at 3.7VDC is only about 7.1Ah at 5.12VDC, and in a power bank the boost converter from 3.7 mean VDC to 5.12 is only about 85% efficient so you actually receive something like 6.1Ah at 5.12V from a bank rated at 10Ah. I tested a power bank, was disappointed in results, and after looking into it, I discovered the above is why. Somewhat misleading for consumers. Thanks for sharing the fabrication techniques for that foam! I want to get some to try it. As you say, it seems very versatile. I always learn a lot from your videos and really enjoy watching them.

The problem with these soup bag cells is that they usually have too high an internal resistance and the voltage collapses quickly when the phone draws higher currents. For projects like this I only use the 18650s from Sanyo or Sony... they have quite low internal resistance and keep their capacity even until the end.

I'm still looking for a source where you can get the cells as squares.

if youre in a smaller airport the tsa personnel are not as flexible as in larger airports, . not a bad thing but they just have more time to scrutinize because they dont have the volume of people going through, IMO.

28 Wh in the pouch battery as you can see on the bottom left of your tester's screen after the test. this is actually only a bit more than twice of a normal iphone battery (12-16Wh)

Your opinion? What if a phone's battery is at end-of-life (it can be charged to 100% but won't hold charge). Do you see any problem operating that phone using external cells such as you have done in this video? I want to use it as an emergency phone in my car and would leave the external battery connected with the phone off, charging the external battery when the car is running.

I wanted to ask how did you calibrated the batteries ? I tried but it need calibration it doesn't detect high capacity batteries. What batteries should i use lithium ion or lithium polymer and how much amps is not harmful for my Samsung note 8 ? Can you suggest me what batteries should i use ?

The LG MJ1 is higher capacity, not sure how you missed that one. The MJ1’s pull an honest 3450-3500 minimum and I’ve had some pull 3500 from used e-bike packs but I’m guessing the packs that has cells with that much capacity remaining likely had 25 cycles at most and the BMS died causing the consumer to think the battery pack was dead.

I am trying to do the same thing with an LG V20 that has a removable battery with 10000mah/10ah expanded battery case.
I think I can probably fit 5 3500mah LG MJ1 18650 cells in the aftermarket expanded battery case for a 17500mah/17ah battery.
