What Really Happened to Johnny Rivers
Johnny Rivers is a unique figure in the history of rock music. On the most obvious level, he was a rock star of the 1960s and a true rarity as a white American singer/guitarist who made a name for himself as a straight-ahead rock and roller during the middle of that decade.

Having grown up south of New Orleans in the '60's, Johnny Rivers was the beloved hometown boy. I pitched a fit when I was 10 and my parents wouldn't take me to see him perform in a nightclub in Biloxi one summer. They had to explain that I was too young to go to a nightclub.
I later saw him perform on the Delta Queen in New Orleans. He was amazing. During a break, he introduced me to Grandma Ramistella who was seated in front of me and I told him about my 10-year-old self in Biloxi. He laughed and said that I could have gotten them closed down. He asked what my favorite song was and later dedicated "Mountain of Love" to me. He was/is a very nice gentleman and put on a great show that night! He has long been one of my favorite singers.

I've grew up listening to Johnny. I'll be 67 years old in a month. I sing Poor side of town Karaoke on Fridays at my favorite Tavern, Baxters in Greensboro, North Carolina. Thanks for all your good music Johnny Rivers.

Johnny Rivers..is FINE!.. Still performing and touring!...I met Johnny Rivers on a night he performed at the Grand Ole Opry...Shot photos on him on stage...and talked with him backstage...What a nice, sensible man...Looked great, still has all his hair!..and looking great!.. Sounding Great!...Nothing 'old'..about the guy!.. About two weeks later, he called me!...What a nice surprise that was...He asked if he could get some of the pictures I shot, and I sent them to him.. which he used on his website...James Burton was on guitar the night I shot the pictures.. He SHOULD BE!!..in the Hall of one of the Greats!..

You are ALL SO CORRECT !!
Wife and I were on Mississippi coast for my 50-yr class reunion in 2019. Rivers was performing in Biloxi that week-end. As I owed my wife an anniversary present, I got tickets as an additional surprise.
WOW !! What a show.!! The MAN still has IT !! Wife enjoyed it, too. WOW!!

Baby I need your lovin was my favorite but there were many great tunes...He was considered to be the King of the remakes but what a wonderful soulful voice, played a great guitar, and his own versions of the songs performed were truly remarkably done...And yes, he deserves to be in the HOF, Im sure he will get there because he deserves it....

How do they not include "Secret Agent Man"? It's a travesty he's not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
