I understood "innocent until proven guilty" was also a departure from "most" legal systems. But then the idea that government exists to serve the people, not the other way around, is the core of the "great experiment".

This is So difficult to explain to Americans .. The education in this Country since the 1960’s has gone progressively away from explaining how and why the American system is unique and admired globally.. People under 50 especially, seem to be broadly accepting of an oppressive government.. (If it parrots their limited understanding and serves them.) it is weird how easy things shifted from the historic Liberal distrust of big government. To what we see today.
