When you’re a producer it can be hard to express exactly what you want on the drums—especially when it comes to drum fills.

That’s why it’s super useful know and at least be able to name a handful of classic drum fills.

I'm just starting (again) to get the hang of my Ableton Live Intro DAW, and this video was helpful and informative. Matt's presentation style also gets everything across in a humorous style, which keeps you tuned in.

A little criticism: I think it would help if you would explain how to make use of your MIDI drum patterns, since pure MIDI does not contain mapping information.

For example: when you drag the Midi into Ableton (or any other DAW) you will see the notes (the drum hits) in the Midi editor, but you have to make a guess which drum sound (snare, kick, closed hat, open hat etcetera) to assign to each note. This can be difficult to figure out with more complex patterns.

Just a small section or a seperate video showing how it's done would help, since a lot of beginners and even intermediate users won't know what to do with those MIDIs that you so generously share with us!

I think it would also help if the MIDI patterns adhere to a generally accepted standard, such as the General Midi drum map. This way you can quickly point users to a General Midi drum map and they will know which note represents which sound.

Can you next time do a quick breakdown of each fill? Even if it's just a quick 30 second breakdown with the ryhthm chart, or even just the breakdown without any sheet music. Anything would be helpful. And it'd only add a couple minutes to the video.
