The Utopia of the Seas is the newest ship from Royal Caribbean. This being the second largest passenger ship in the world, I was excited to try it out and show you around. Our cabin seemed new and clean but, it seemed like there was something missing. What do you think?

You have a desk and chest of drawers/fridge which is enough. You don't need all that extra space which just makes a cabin look smaller. The way it is in your cabin, the overall look is more spacious. The larger shower is nice, and the storage space in the bathroom is more than enough for two people.

I personally I like the minimal side with the desk and mirror. Gives the space a more open feel. I do understand what you are saying, but I bet if the taller cabinets were present, then the video would be about how small the area felt. Just my opinion. Also, the small usb port is a C, the square is an A. The bathroom looks pretty much like what I remember from the Harmony of the seas.

Many years ago, I sailed on RC Sovereign of the Seas. (yep YEARS!!) My son slept on the sofa bed, but it pulled out the same way a regular bed did, (length wise, Hope that makes sense) and when you opened it, I couldn't get to the bathroom at night without walking on his bed!. I have been hesitant to cruise and have to use that sofa bed, but if that is the standard sofa bed, I will reconsider my opinions. Thank you for showing it to me.

I think what’s missing isn’t so much furnishings but the organic flow of the design. Usually cabins look like they’ve been planned down to the last detail so there’s continuity and tables, shelves and seating look like they “belong” together. This cabin looks somewhat disjointed as if the furnishings were added piecemeal according to a checklist. Bed - check, table - check, mirror - check, two closets - check. The lack of artwork or accents further emphasizes the feeling that the components don’t quite mesh to make a cohesive whole that’s pleasing to the eye.

I just got off the Utopia and I thought the rooms were great (6th floor balcony room)

It seems too bare, but my understanding from other Youtube videos is that this ship is for short cruises. With the larger turnover and maintenance, it looks like things were made to be easily repaired or replaced. It does take some of the personality out of it, and looks like a blank slate. Its not to my personal taste, but I cruise for the destination and not necessarily the vessel.

Cabin is identical to the one I stayed in on Wonder of the Seas. Exactly.

You are correct. It appears something is missing.

Looks like less storage than we had on Oasis of the Seas, which had cupboards above the bed and shelves on the walls, as I recall. I wonder if they are expecting more wear and tear on these rooms, with it being a “party ship” and thus want less things that can be broken and easier to switch out.

I wonder if the light situation was that as you hold the button down it dims it. We just learned that on our previous cruise. If you click it and shut it off, but if you click and hold, it would dim the lights.

I was on the Utopia of the Seas back in July for the maiden voyage. The cabin was pretty basic and just fine for me, but the ship itself was beautiful with all its different areas to enjoy.

We just got off that ship. Definitely different than what we’re used to, 3 nights wasn’t enough either.

Yup, seems like they cheaped out on the cabin designs.

We stayed in a Junior Suite on Utopia so nice to see Balcony. I loved Icon Balconies (except the stupid baskets) haha! Thanks for your videos!!

It looks like plenty of space and storage, especially for the shorter cruises it will be used for. They deem it the partycruise, so less to demolish for the rowdy party crowd?

I’m loyal to Royal but damn you are right about the cabin . Definitely seems like it’s missing something…

I like the more clean/simple design, I also think it will age better - I hate those old nasty divider curtains on the older ships

Looks like Utopia may become the Motel6 at sea.

The TV was moved from the wall by dressing area, so less artwork in the room.
The taller table on the balcony is nice for finding your drink easier and if you have a snack to eat.
