AFAM is "A Foreigner Assigned to Manila". Divorce in the US depends on the state. Alimony exists in the US if the divorce law in the state referred to has a default cause or alimony law exists in the state where the couple got married. Also, alimony will only exists when the partner remains unmarried, once the partner gets married again, alimony stops. At any rate, the annulment process here is highly hypocritical, why? Because this no "collution" clause just encourage the couple to bitter fight until the end. Moreover, making the dissolution of marriage here so difficult as to protect the family is a joke because in fact majority ends up committing adultery and concubinage. Why the law is making it difficult for 2 people to move forward if it doesn't work anymore? Marriage is a personal process, so, I agree with you, Atty. Libayan, that the concern whether divorce will be abused here or not if the law exists should not be an issue. And, indeed, property and children issues must be the issues mostly concerned if there's divorce law. Many are just against the divorce due to religion and got nothing to do with what is right if the marriage is not working anymore.

Dapat talaga may divorce sa Pilipinas ang kaso di aaprobahan nang kongreso at senado dahil karamihan sa kanila mga mambabatas ay mga lalaki na may mga mistresses. Sila ang unang tatamaan nang masama pag may divorce sa atin. Yong mga asawa nila magkakaroon na nang lakas nang loob para mag file nang divorce at mapipilitan silang mag bigay nang suporta. Sa ngayon pwede lang nilang iiwan mga asawa nila na parang mga pinagsawaang mga gamit lamang. Dapat nga yung maghihiwalay na mag-asawa eh matiwalag sa Religion na kinaaaniban kasi hindi pala nila kayang pangatawanan yung Marriage Vows nila... Sa Muslim pede sila mkapag-asawa hanggang 4 na beses at open sila sa Divorce... Better yet, Why not amend Legal Separation and to require or gawing mandatory ang Civil Wedding... Divorce should be made legal as it allows for alimony, child support etc. Today, Women bear the burden of supporting their children when spouses leave or maltreat their families & this goes for men too. Why is the Philippines so behind the times?

My husband is a PR in Canada. He filed a divorced and granted on 2014. Nag-asawa na po siya doon sa Canada at nagkaanak na rin. Pero ako, hanggang ngayon hindi pa kasi wala namang divorce dito sa Pinas. Pag mag-file po ako ng Recognition of Divorce Decree, magkanu po aabutin at gaanu po katagal?
