How to use ''was'' and ''had been''

was:I was there.(near past)
had been:i had been there (far past)

ex:I was in Bangladesh in 2009 (it was in near past)
I had been in England in 2005 (it was a long ago)

ex:I was in Grameenphone in 2012.(it was 5 years ago)
I had been in warid in 2003.(it was 14 years ago)

I hope,now you guys are clear about the uses and difference between ''was'' and ''had been''.

'Had been' also suggests the action that is already done, indicating that someone visited somewhere and now s/he has come back. It is like the use of 'have/has been'. As for example;

Q: Had you been to Cox's Bazar?
A: Yes, I had been to Cox's Bazar several times with my family.
Just like...
Q: Have you ever been to India?
A: Yes, I have been to India twice.
Both the sentences indicate such an action that is done. The use shows if someone returns after visiting a place, this structure can be used to express the sense according to the time of action.
