I have experience this first hand with my grandmother who was abused by her daughter as a social worker I did everything in my power to get her away from my Aunt but my grandmother was afraid and Untrained social workers did not pick up on my aunts abusive tactics and manipulation of my grandmother. I never thought I would experience this in my life but I am becoming an advocate for the elderly and special needs.

Nursing Homes are virtual prisons that exploit the aged, I respect people that care for their aged parents, my Mother suffered a serious Stroke and I cared for her for 12 plus years, she didn’t deserve to be dumped in a Nursing Home like her Doctors advised, I’m glad I challenged Her doctors advice..

Hanging up the phone 📱 when being asked for money 💰 is a good habit, only send money 💰 to people you have researched to some extent, elder abuse is a despicable act that should be punished harshly.

My mom has Alzheimer’s and my sisters narcissist behavior can be seen as Abusive in how she talks to my mom and make her cry sometimes. Her patience can be so ridiculous.

unfortunately this happened before my great grandmother passed. She had a caregiver that took advantage of her and stole $1000-$2, 000 of products she didn't buy or need. It was sad to see an older woman who knows better to take advantage of my 93 year old grandmother. So I came to work as her caregiver, but eventually I wouldn't be able to due to school. My grandmother and mother didn't trust caregivers much anymore so the idea of a nursing home was better than a stranger going to her home.

Just watch “I care a lot, ” it’s super scary.
I keep asking my nearly disabled dad to move in with me, he refuses. I’m afraid someone’s gonna get him in a bad way. Nothing I can do as I live too far away.

The most vicious crime of all occurs when a clergy, priest, minister, Iman or Rabbi etc. uses their religious position to personally scam money out of unsuspecting seniors for their own self gain. NYC is a haven for criminals who get away with this despicable behavior. I have not found a resource to help my dad and expose these unscrupulous clergy. In my fathers case a very well-known clergy.

I can't do anything but cry, I was hurt today by my daughter, my foot is broke and my leg and body hurt. I'm angry and have been for a long time . I knew when she threw me off the porch today I have to get out. I used to think she was my best friend now I think she was just using me to get her way... I'm saying this for ppl to get out anyway you can. May God bless you all

You are right, they will steal from you, when you report them, they tell the law you gave it to them, and he walks laughing at you, who's going to take an old woman's word over a young person? So she just learns to let it go and they keep stealing, can't report things anymore...sad.

Shame on people who exploit the elderly.

So if we believe one of these financial exploitations is happening to an elderly person, who do we report it to?

"Low risk crime and it's very lucrative."

I needed to be reminded that I probably have lost some cognitive decline.
"Grooming..." I know what that is - but, I did not see it happening, again. I need a "fail save' plan.

Elder abuse rarely happens in three or four generation households. Making your children feel so indifferent towards you that they put you in some old people's prison called a nursing home is the leading cause of elder abuse. Take care of your family, and your family will take care of you.

Amen. The difficulty lies in the fact that if the abuser is a family member like a son, the senior may be in denial and refuse help as they are protective of their abuser. In this current situation in our family, what is the best course of action. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

I agree that the concept of elder abuse is sad. I would not want to lose money to a scammer in my elderly years, or any time. Also, when I first read the title, I remember mistakenly inferring that "elder abuse" meant being abused by an elder, not an elderly person being abused.

I have seen every one of these scenarios with clients over the years! It’s so sad, but nursing homes are worse! We need a culture where we respect our elders and value their knowledge and experience. 🧐
