My First UNBOXING! Selecting a Drone for 3D Modeling and First Flight with the DJI Mavic Pro

This is a different kind of video - as many of you know, I've been very interested in the idea of creating 3D models from drone an aerial footage. In this video, I talk about what I considered when selecting a drone, show you which one I picked, what came with it, and I show video from my first flight. In future videos, we'll talk about using the drone to capture things like photos for photo match, photos for photogrammetry, the possibility of using a drone to capture background images, and more!

Great video! You should also look into Map Pilot. It has terrain follow, offline flight mode, camera settings + a few other features that make it a better app than Drone Deploy. The downside is that you have to process the photos yourself in your PC but with Agisoft Photoscan it’s pretty easy and the results are better than the ones DD send you.
It also lets you smooth the trees and houses in order to get a perfect terrain mesh and elevation curves!

Nice video from the drone. I have seen a project that they used a drone to capture a 3d terrain which was in colour and included the fences in 3d.

I have a specific project. It is a small brigde. Modeling the terain ist for me still the problem. I have a Trimple surveying machine.and still problems to connect all the things. Do you have experiences to import an to draw e.g. the hight an pointnumber of each point of such a point cloud? I will be at basecamp too :-)

to your list of favourite Sketchup plugins I would definitely add "Auto-invisible Layer on/off" and "unhide all entities"

Best choice, congrats! Maybe you need some ND-filters to regulate the shutter speed for smoother footage.

I was talking to an estate agent on the weekend. He was talking a out this concept (drone recording/3d modeling). It seemed.. bizarre to me. But he explained the idea is to be able to demo buildings/constructs from above etc. I know nothing more than that at the moment, but I'm only 5min into the video at the mo..
