Optimate 6 and car battery

First attempt at using an Optimate 6 on a 12V car battery. After about 10 mins or so, the bottom right LED came on, and the bottom left LED went off to indicate that the battery was receiving the correct amps passing through it. To fully charge a battery takes 25% of the rated amp hours, so this should take about 10 hours it it's a 40Ah battery. ( I don't know the rating for this battery ). After an hour or so, the right bottom light started to flash indicating that the battery had reached 12.3V, and it was now being optimize charged ( 10 min pulses of current). After 2 hours it reached 12.78V. Left it overnight and it dropped back to 12.39V. Turned it back on and after an hour the top right 2 LEDs (5 & 6) became solid indicating that the battery was good ( but not very good ). It then started the 30 min maintenance charging cycles. Battery finished with a final voltage of 12.57V. The following day down to 12.46V.

Try to check electrolyte levels before charging. On the video is visible low level at the first cell from right side. You will have better results maybe :-)

I prefer the optimate over ctek for a simple reason, ctek you have to press a mode switch to start, optimate you dont.  if you get a power cut the ctek goes back to sleep untill you press a button, optimate goes back to working, essential if you using a charger to maintain  a battery for a longer time than just an overnight charge, like some people use them plugged in for months....not good if you come back and find it didnt restart itself some months ago.  I dont hold out hope for any desufating going on though, once a battery is done, nothing revives it, i think the desufate is just a gimmick.  battery will either come back or not, just hope!

you need to refil the cells with destilated water before charging en desulfating proces.

Something I got from Amazon a few days ago to recondition and save my lead acid batteries.  I have some huge gel cell batteries in the basement but I doubt it will work on those though.  It can apparently desulfate stuffed lead acid batteries by passing a high frequency signal through the battery to break down the sulfate crystals on the plates.  Seems lots of people say these things are a scam.  It would be nice to find a definitive answer.
