BURNOUT FAIL! Ford Mustang GT Blows Clutch Leaving a Car Show

This Ford Mustang GT took an attempt at showing off to the crowds whilst leaving Wheels Day 2013 held at Rushmoor Arena in the UK.

It didn't quite go to plan as he was bouncing off the rev limiter thinking he was doing a burnout he was actually slipping the clutch which led to a rather dramatic explosion as he pulled out of the junction!

It's pretty easy to destroy a clutch if you're not careful, Doesn't matter what make or model of vehicle. There's plenty of youtube videos of people burning up Corvette clutches (for example).

pretty much yes.... burnouts really don't harm the car that much (except the tires), it's guys like this that slip the clutch and break the clutch, tranny, engine and everything else.

If the clutch wasn't ruined, it was sure glazed by the 13sec mark.

Can someone explain to me how this happened? Isn't it just clutch in, rev up , dump clutch, give slight brake for a burnout? What did this guy do

I'm not much into cars but I see videos like this to often.

Can some1 explain how you actually do a burnout? Does the car need a certain amount of Horsepower to provide wheel spin?

This has nothing to do with the car. This guy just didn't know what he was doing. My guess is, he didn't turn the traction control off first. He also had to have been braking because of how slow he was moving. Good brakes + good traction control = no tire spin. Therefore he was putting way to much strain on his engine and transmission; something had to give. I think he either floated some valves or slung a rod based on the crap coming out of his exhaust. Not sure if he actually did any damage to the clutch. I've blown up a clutch before and that's not really what happens.
