A quickie hint. When checking traces on a bare board and you come to a thru-hole, jam a resistor/capacitor lead in there and tack solder it in place, then flip the board over. The hole with a lead sticking through is the one you want. You can then heat the lead from the top side and it’ll just fall out, once you’re done tracing the wiring from the top side! If the board is populated, desolder just the one hole, then look for a corresponding component lead free of solder on the other side (or jiggle the lead from underneath, then look for the movement on the top side)! HTH! BTW: I enjoy your repair videos, even if I don’t have an Amiga or Archimedes. I just like seeing the insides. 😊

I just got an Archimedes A3000 with everything with it of ebay a few hours ago, its even got the original colour monitor, all working as well, although I bet I will have to do some future proofing on it

I had very same issue with red screen AND with "Disc wasn't unmount" ADFS error on my 3010
Interestingly, my A3000 with same podule and dom disc - had no such issues at all.

I have the same issues with RTCs on expansion boards when the battery is removed. The RTC was not detected until I removed the 12V feed. I think this is because the working voltage range of the RTC chip is about 3V to 7V, so with no battery pulling the 12V voltage line down, the RTC chip was being fed too high a voltage.

Hi Chris - about C64 SID chips; ask Adrian (Adrian’s Digital Basement) or Jan Beta. I think Adrian did a YouTube video recently about C64 SID chips, and he may have mentioned getting an “odd” SID chip in (I’m pretty sure it was a “mailbag” video.) You might also check out “The 8-bit Guy” (he did a video series on the history of Commodore computers), or Perifractic (Retro Recipes). HTH. 😊

Wouldn't you be able to avoid the sun if you were closer to one of the poles as opposed to the equator? Maybe the reason for turning left?

ah the archemedes. brought to you by the computers for schools campaign by tesco in the early 1990s.

Just wondering why no one seems to rig an LIR2032 which I believe is already 3.6V and rechargeable instead of feeding these repairs with a 3.2V CR2032? -Mark.

I’m still waiting for “terrible” fire to come out of those boards... 🤣

The schematics show you where the mouse switch connections go on the A3000.

Can you fly away from the sun? Depends on where you are. On the equator, you would need something that flies close to 1700km an hour. Closer to the poles, you will get away with sub-sonic speeds, which should be doable with a normal passenger plane.
