How to Charge Your Porsche Taycan at One of Electrify America Charging Stations!! With the purchase of a Porsche Taycan it comes with 3 years 30 min charging with Electrify America's growing charging network! Learn how to find one of the stations via the Porsche PCM or the Charing NA app via your cell phone and what to do once you arrive to the station!

The Taycan is equipped with state of the art charging architecture from 120V at home to 800V DC charging while on the move! Certain options when spec'ing a Taycan allow it to charge faster than the the standard charge times (see table in video for kW and charging times). At home it is recommend to have a 240V socket installed with 50 amps to optimize charging times at home! With the optional 19.2 kW AC On-board charger it is recommend to have a 240V 100 amp socket hardwired into the panel to cut charging times in half opposed to the standard charger.

-Standard- 9.6 kW charger on a 240V 100 amp wall outlet from 0%-100% state of charge is 10 hr 30 min.
-Optional- 19.2 kW charger on a 240V 100 amp wall outlet from 0%-100% state of charge is an impressive 4 hr 20 min.

The optional 19.2 kW charger shaves charging times in half from the standard charger this option is well worth it as most owners will be charging at home unless on a long road trip!

As for the DC charging stations while on the move most are 400V 150 kW chargers without the optional 150 kW On-board DC charger the current is limited to 50 kW as this is standard with the Taycan. Estimate charging times are as follows:

-Standard- 50 kW charger on a 400V 400 amp from 5%-80% state of charge is 1 hr 33 min.
-Optional- 150 kW charger on 400v 400 amp from 5%-80% state of charge is 36 min almost a third of the charging time!

Both of these optional chargers are recommend if you will be using your Taycan as a daily driver with longer commutes as they will significantly reduce the charging time of your Porsche Taycan!

The Taycan comes with industry leading 800V charging architecture as standard for insane super charging times from 5% charge to 80% charge in 22.5 min!

Somehow that plug&charge ease that you get over there does not work out out here in Miami.
You have to manually start the session from the Charging NA app.

Dude, you're wrong about the Electrify America stations being 400-volts. They are ALL on 900V architecture. Don't advise people to buy the 150 kW 400v DC fast charge option, because it's practically useless. There are VERY few DC fast charge stations in the US on 400v architecture that can supply more than the 50 kW (there are clusters of them in some areas of the country but not many. 90+% of 400v stations are limited to 50 kW). That's why Porsche set the standard 400-v DC fast charge rate at 50 kW because you rarely ever get higher power than that on a 400v station.

In my experience on my Taycan Turbo, you have to start the charging on the App. Simply plugging in will not initiate charging!!

I rarely go above 50-90kw for charging and I have the onboard 150kw

Jeff great videos would like to see if you can do a video for the app charging NA Porsche charging service. Would like to know what settings you should set 79 kW batteries on the app under my vehicle click on enable and gives you options want to get the best optimization possible when charging

I believe, and hope, that you are incorrect about needing the 150KW DC-DC converter to fully exploit the Electrify America 150KW stations. I even got a photo of the tag on side of BTCPower station in San Jose. It shows output 200VDC to 950VDC at 350A max then total power is restricted to 150KW here.
I purposely didn't order the 150KW DC-DC converter upgrade option because as far as far as I could find 400V stations in USA are 50KW max anyway. Can you please look at charger screen that shows voltage and amperage while charging a Taycan. I don't get my car for another month. 😁

But I do enjoy your video except this one question. 👍

No idea how to charge the taycon I downloaded the app electrify America when you get to the station how does it recognize it’s you? What plan do you get with electrify America isn’t Porsche giving you 30mins free...

You are not accurate about having to have the charging options to charge faster at the 50kW station. That is wrong! The infrastructure in US is only able to max out at 50kW at any 400 V stations.

This always got me cringe and the main reason why I got a Tesla instead of a Taycan. The Taycan drives much better, with better build quality but it's charging that holds it back.
I wonder if we have an answer for this (I'm not talking about charger availability here) - how can I charge a non-Tesla not at home if my phone is broken/out of charge/no network connectivity?
